Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about ACN validation.

What is an ACN?

An Australian Company Number (ACN) is a 9-digit number issued by ASIC when a company is registered under the Corporations Act 2001. It is a permanent legal identifier for your company.

How is an ACN different from an ABN?

An ABN (11 digits) is issued by the ATO for all businesses, including sole traders and trusts. An ACN (9 digits) is only for companies and is issued by ASIC. Often, the ABN incorporates the ACN with two extra check digits

Why use a test ACN?

Our generator provides valid-format, checksum-correct 9-digit ACNs for testing and development only. They’re not registered—ideal for demos, dev environments, or populating mock databases.

Can I generate more than one ACN at a time?

Yes! You can generate 1 to 100 ACNs at the click of a button—perfect for bulk end user testing or automated systems.

Are ACNs generated real or registered?

No—they are fictional but conform to valid format and checksum rules. They should never be used for actual company registration or legal documentation in the real world.
